UASG 2023 in Kuala Lumpur
The 3rd Unmanned Aerial Systems in Geomatics (UASG 2023) for 2023 has been organized in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 21-22 November 2023 (https://www.iitr.ac.in/uasg2023/). The conference was organized by IIT Roorkee, Dept of Civil Engineering (https://civil.iitr.ac.in/) who organized the first two editions of this conference and the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM, https://www.ukm.my/portalukm/).
The organizers had kindly asked CIPA to support the event, which was approved by the Executive Committee. They also asked for the organization of a tutorial on Image-based modelling by CIPA and specifically from Prof. Andreas Georgopoulos, Vice-President of CIPA, and Ms Margarita Skamantzari, CIPA Expert member and EP of CIPA. The travel and accommodation of the two CIPA members was partly subsidized by our committee and the organizers. In addition, Prof. A. Georgopoulos delivered a plenary speech and participated in a round table discussion about the present and future of the drones in Geomatics.
The Tutorial was held on November 19th (09:00-13:30) and was attended by approx. 25 participants (Images 1-4). The plenary speech was delivered on November 20th and was entitled “UAS as a timeless platform for aerial imagery for documentation” (Image 5). The round table took place on the last day (November 22nd) and lasted for about 120 mins (Image 6).
The event, of which CIPA was a supporting partner, was held in a hotel somewhat outside Kuala Lumpur city center with all necessary facilities. Dr. Fabio Remondino, CIPA expert member and former CIPA VP, was among the keynote speakers (Image 7).
