Celebrating a decade of collaboration between CHCD and CIPA

The 7th International Symposium on Cultural Heritage Conservation by Digitization (CHCD2024) took place from July 16-19, 2024, at the ZhongguancunInternational Innovation Center. The event, themed “RE-shape: Digital Heritage Driven by Technological Innovation,” focused on new digital technologies and integrated workflows in cultural heritage conservation. It featured international panels, themed sessions, site excursions, exhibitions, and competitions. Nearly 300 experts from 20 countries and regions participated, including scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and media representatives from over 200 institutions. During the four-day conference, more than 100 professional presentations and case studies were shared and discussed.

As a co-organizer, CIPA was deeply involved in the event’s planning and execution. Prior to the conference, CIPA experts actively participated in the scientific committee, contributing to the evaluation of entries for the Best Practice Competition and academic papers. They were instrumental in selecting finalists from 58 academic papers and 65 case studies.

Eleven CIPA Executive Board members and five CIPA EP members participated in the symposium in person. They contributed to 2 keynote speeches, 4 co-organized international panels, 1 special session, 2 international collaboration signing ceremonies, 12 presentations, and 4 roundtable discussions. CIPA experts brought their professional expertise and shared valuable insights, greatly enhancing the depth and impact of the symposium.

As of July 31, 2024, a total of 110 reports had been published on CHCD2024. Of these, 93 were illustrated reports, and 23 included video or live reports, covering 12 languages, including Chinese, English, Italian, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, French, and German. These reports, across various platforms, covered the forum’s theme, session highlights, and participant speeches, vividly showcasing the immense potential and broad prospects of digital technology in cultural heritage preservation.
